In my own words
This was a collection in three sections, published jointly with two fellow journalists: María del Carmen Mestas, who wrote in free verse, and Marcel Luerio, who used the haiku. For my part, I wrote a sequence of erotic décimas under the subtitle Retratos de mañana.
It was the first book in which I saw my poems published (and so far the only one, although I have never stopped writing poetry). While I can see the rivets and welds in the work of a poet still learning his trade (and do those of us who attempt poetry ever stop learning?), I disown none of those poems. First, out of respect for that young writer, who always wrote the best poem he could. Second because, as the eternal Vallejo would say, "there is no written pyramid without its heart". So there they stand, the stones and foundations that helped other verses, perhaps higher ones, to arrive later.
Oh, and a graphic rarity for any collectors. The cover of the slender print edition, made with paper left over from other print jobs, came out in two versions. One in white (rarer still) and the other in the beautiful matte tone that circulated most. From this distance, my thanks to the painter Juan Carlos García for the cover illustration and the vignettes inside.
